There are plenty of misconceptions out there about egg donation, but many of them don’t hold true.
Myth 1: Egg Donors Can’t Have Their Own Children Later.
FALSE! We personally know many women who have donated, and now have happy and healthy children of their own. Egg donation doesn’t deplete your egg reserve or interfere with your ability to conceive in the future. Your body naturally loses multiple eggs during each menstrual cycle, and during the donation process, only the eggs that would have otherwise not been used are retrieved.
Myth 2: You Can’t Donate if You Have a Tattoo.
Having a tattoo doesn’t automatically disqualify you from donating eggs. The main concern is making sure you haven’t contracted any infections during the tattoo process, especially within the last year. As long as you’ve received your tattoo from a licensed professional and meet the general health requirements, you’re likely still a good candidate to donate.
Myth 3: You’ll run out of eggs if you donate.
Not true! Women are born with over a million eggs, and during your lifetime, you’ll only use about 400. Donating your eggs doesn’t affect your fertility or decrease your chances of getting pregnant in the future. You’ll still have plenty of eggs left if you decide to have a family of your own someday.
Myth 4: Donors only do it for the money.
Compensation is definitely a benefit, but actually many donors choose to donate because they want to help others. Many of our donors personally knew someone who struggled with fertility issues and this was their opportunity to make a difference. Knowing that you’re giving someone the chance to build a family is incredibly rewarding.
Myth 5: Only 'Perfect' Women Can Donate.
There are qualifications such as age and general health, but egg donors come from all walks of life! You don't need to fit a specific mold or have a 'perfect' background to donate your eggs. Everyone is different, and we love that. Her Way welcomes diversity- always.
